A Brief History of Bense Seventh-day Adventist Church
The Beginning
Pastor Giddens introduced the Seventh-day Adventist message to
the community of Bense, Anse de Mai and Anse Soldat. At the outset,
this new religion seemed rather strange and most people had virtually nothing to do with it. A few, however, embraced it and those included; Sister Manasseh Anthony, Sister Doreen Sandy and her mother, and Brother Hudson Fabien, who had already been exposed to the message while working on the island of Guadeloupe.
Initially, this devoted group of followers worshipped at the home of Ma St. Lois, Sister Doreen’s mother. The devil soon went on the attack. A rumor surrounding one of the members soon surfaced and it threatened the survival of this fledgling group. Following fervent prayer, the group decided to move to Brother Hudson Fabien’s home in an attempt to defuse the circulating rumors, maintain their integrity and as a new meeting place.
